About

LightSail is making it possible for satellites to talk to each other using laser light instead of radio waves. Lasers are faster and more secure, but today's laser terminals are expensive, power hungry, large, and complex - not great for satellites.

We're changing that. Our Vela platform puts an entire laser communication system onto a tiny chip, replacing the mechanical moving parts that make current systems so costly. The result is a terminal that's smaller, lighter, and a fraction of the price — making high-speed laser links accessible to satellite constellations of all sizes.

Based in London, Ontario and founded out of Western University, we're a team of photonics engineers turning years of research into space-ready hardware. Our first photonic payload launches into orbit this year.

Whether it's connecting thousands of satellites in a constellation, beaming data to the ground, or enabling quantum-secure communications, LightSail is building the infrastructure for the next era of space connectivity.
