About

The Italian Technology Cluster for Smart Communities is a national association with over 150 partners (from the industrial, research and public administration worlds) that collaborate in the development of innovation projects for the management of urban and metropolitan areas, in particular in the following topics: smart and collaborative mobility (intelligent mobility of goods and people), smart and secure living (urban security, protection of the territory and critical infrastructures, prevention of critical or risk events, IT security of data and their use), smart and inclusive government (relationship between public administrations and citizens, participation and social inclusion, processes and service management). Established in 2012 by MIUR as part of the national specialization strategy, the Cluster in 2017 is further recognized by the Ministry as a coordinator of industrial research policies at national and local level and for the development of territorial competitiveness.

The cluster is managed by Fondazione Piemonte Innova, founded in 2003, is a non-profit innovation agency. Its mission is to contribute to the regional and national competitiveness, by accelerating companies that use technologies as a strategic development factor and supporting the institutions in planning and managing innovation processes. FPI also coordinates the Regional ICT Innovation Cluster, established by the Piedmont Regional Government in 2009, which represents companies and research organisations focused on ICT (280 members, including SMEs, universities and research centers and other organisations). Currently, FPI is the coordinator of AIBC EUROCLUSTERS (AI and Blockchain for mobility, logistics, energy and manufacturing), as well as partner of the EXPAND EDIH (AI and Cybersecurity) and member of ALPS EEN (the Enterprise Europe Network node from Piemonte and Val D'Aosta regions).
