Sustainable Seashell-Based Construction Materials
Full Professor at UPPA - LFCR/MPPM - Valocoq Project
About
Our materials transform seashell waste into high-performance construction products, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional mineral-based materials. Inspired by biomimicry, they leverage the hierarchical structure and natural strength of shells to achieve excellent mechanical performance and durability.
Designed with circular economy principles in mind, these materials rely on locally available resources, reducing the need for virgin raw materials and significantly lowering carbon emissions. They are compatible with existing industrial processes, enabling easy integration into current production chains.
Already demonstrated in real industrial contexts, our solutions have been successfully applied in pilot and pre-industrial projects, validating both their technical reliability and scalability. This product-oriented approach ensures that sustainability does not come at the expense of performance, providing a practical and robust pathway toward greener construction.
