Adaptive Mutation: How Ideas Outgrow Their Mediums
- Spotlight on Artists
What happens when ideas outgrow the tools, systems, or environments that contain them? This keynote explores creativity as a process of adaptation under pressure, drawing a parallel with biological evolution in extreme conditions. When environments become uninhabitable, organisms do not disappear. They transform, absorbing and reconfiguring what surrounds them in order to survive. Applied to artistic practice, this logic reveals mutation as a necessity rather than a choice. As ideas exceed the limits of a medium, transformation becomes inevitable. New tools are absorbed, new methods are learned, and the practice reshapes itself to continue existing.
