REGGIO EMILIA: INTEGRATING CULTURAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL INTERVENTIONS FOR NEIGHBORHOOD TRANSFORMATION
About
Reggio Emilia city has developed a comprehensive approach leveraging nature-based solutions for climate adaptation. This involves a fundamental aesthetic and functional redefinition of green spaces through community-driven processes. This transformation shifts urban greenery from ornamental elements to functional components for community resilience and climate adaptation, with citizens, education and cultural actors actively involved in reimagining and reshaping their urban environment.
This strategy leverages community engagement as a fundamental component, recognizing that ecological transformation requires active citizen participation and social ownership of green spaces, also through creative processes. Complementing this approach, various local cultural actors have been experimenting with approaching climate transition through cultural production, creating innovative pathways that connect artistic expression with environmental awareness and community mobilization.
E35 Foundation is looking to join a project consortium for the HORIZON-NEB-2025-01-PARTICIPATION-02 call, to assess the impact and test the potential of integrated cultural and Nature Based interventions within a coherent strategy and promote its scalability in other contexts.
