The Office for National Minorities is an independent government office. The Office comprehensively monitors the implementation of constitutional and legislative provisions relating to the special rights of the autochthonous Italian and Hungarian national communities and the position and special rights of the Roma community in Slovenia. The Office performs tasks related to the position, rights, obligations and development opportunities of the Italian and Hungarian national communities and the Roma community that are necessary for fulfilment of the responsibilities and obligations of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia on the basis of the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia and regulations in force, provided that these tasks do not fall within the competence of other state authorities or the authorities of self-governing local communities. In performing such tasks, the Office cooperates with administrative authorities and research, non-governmental, and other organisations.
