HORIZON-CL2-2027-01-HERITAGE-04: Music and Social Sciences Research Group Seeking to Join a Consortium

Researcher at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre

Tallinn, Estonia

About

The Music and Social Sciences Research Group at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EAMT) brings together expertise in music psychology, music sociology, minority studies, policy analysis, and liaison with music therapists working in Estonia. Our small research team is flexible and innovative, with strong regional insight into the Nordic–Baltic context. Our researchers are experienced in applying a wide range of methodologies, including quantitative, qualitative, experimental, and artistic research approaches.

We do not yet have experience participating in Horizon projects; therefore, we are eager to join a consortium and adapt our resources and research ideas to the consortium’s research questions. If you are planning to explore the links between music and society and are looking for a partner in Northern Europe, EAMT would be an excellent choice.

Music is deeply embedded in Estonian culture and plays an important role in society. Estonia is home to the living legend Arvo Pärt and is widely known for the Singing Revolution of the early 1990s. Despite being a relatively small academic institution, EAMT offers academic degrees at all levels, including doctoral studies in musicology and music. With approximately 25% international students, it provides a vibrant multicultural environment for artistic and academic endeavours. We have contemporary infrastructure to support diverse artistic and research activities, including concert halls and recording studios, as well as expertise spanning contemporary, classical, and improvisational practices in both music and theatre.

Ongoing research projects and partnerships of the Music and Social Sciences Research Group include:

  • The impact of subcultural (pop) music on the ideologisation of 21st-century Estonian youth and their mental health

  • The role of cultural events in the social inclusion of young people with special needs

  • Improving the intelligibility of sung text: challenges and scientific foundations

  • Self-Determined Mental Creative Space Through Improvisation
