Ethical AI Expertise for DEMOCRACY-08 and HERITAGE-04

Hive Ventures has published work with the European Commission on innovation policy and R&I internationalisation including on Artificial Intelligence, legal expertise, and ethical AI. We have:

• Contributed the drafting of the AI Act and the Digital Services Act

• Provide expertise on compliance, AI governance and frameworks.

• Developed frameworks for integrating regulations and ethical standards provided by legislation to support various different industries, civil society and SMEs, such as data governance, algorithmic bias mitigation and data protection of fundamental rights.

2. Role in the consortium / Project idea

Development of Sector-Specific AI Governance Frameworks

• Create modular toolkits tailored to NGOs, Civil Society, Public Administration, SMEs and industry sectors for aligning operations with the EU AI Act, DSA, DMA, and EMFA.

• Include model policies, DPIA (Data Protection Impact Assessment) templates, and algorithmic risk classification tools.

• Build a repository of mappings from legislative requirements (EU AI Act, DSA, etc.) to technical implementation guidance (e.g., documentation, model cards, data sheets, logs).

Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue Workshops

• Run targeted workshops with regulators, tech developers, civil society, and end-users to test proposed compliance frameworks and codes of practice.

• Facilitate participatory design of AI use-case scenarios to understand sector-specific risk implications.

AI Compliance Pilot Testing

• Partner with SMEs, NGOs or public sector entities to implement and test the governance frameworks and codes in real-world use cases.

• Create a “sandbox” environment to simulate legal obligations under the EU AI Act and assess their operational viability.
