Hasselt University (UHasselt) is a civic university in Belgium, committed to creating societal impact through interdisciplinary research, education and innovation, with a strong focus on sustainability and collaboration with society.
The Faculty of Architecture and Arts engages in fundamental and applied research that supports sustainable cultural and spatial transitions. Combining expertise in architecture, interior architecture, artistic research and design, the faculty addresses societal and environmental challenges in the built environment through a creative-critical and interdisciplinary approach.
Research covers a broad range of topics, including sustainable and circular building practices, energy sufficiency and thermal comfort, participatory and civic design, well-being and inclusive environments, heritage and adaptive reuse, and craftsmanship and material innovation.
The faculty is particularly recognised for its design-based and participatory research methods, including research by design, Live Projects, living labs, co-creation, prototyping and real-life experimentation. As an experienced partner and coordinator in national and European research projects, the faculty actively collaborates with companies, architects, public authorities, heritage and cultural organisations, civil society and local communities.
Our ambition is to translate research into tangible, sustainable and socially inclusive solutions that contribute to more resilient, liveable and meaningful built environments.
