About

Liebling Haus - The White City Center is a multidisciplinary urban center established by the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality in cooperation with the German government. It operates at the intersection of architecture, urban planning, conservation, research, culture, education, and public engagement, with a strong focus on contemporary urban challenges and the future of the city.

The Center develops and presents exhibitions, research projects, public programs, professional training, workshops, and urban interventions that explore the relationship between the built environment, public space, communities, and everyday urban life. Its work addresses themes including inclusive and participatory urban design, urban nature and biodiversity, climate-responsive planning, heritage, neighbourhood transformation, and the social and cultural dimensions of public space.

Liebling Haus operates as a platform for applied urban research and experimentation. Through its research activities and urban laboratory, it brings together architects, planners, researchers, designers, artists, educators, municipal professionals, local communities, and civil society organisations to investigate urban conditions and develop new approaches through interdisciplinary collaboration and co-creation.

A central part of the Center’s work is rooted in neighbourhood-scale practice in Tel Aviv, using the city as a living laboratory for examining how spatial design influences patterns of use, accessibility, belonging, well-being, environmental quality, and relationships between different users and communities. Particular attention is given to the integration of urban nature into neighbourhood planning and to the role of green and open spaces in supporting biodiversity, climate resilience, social interaction, and quality of life.

The Center has extensive experience in international cooperation and knowledge exchange, connecting local urban challenges with broader European and global discussions on sustainable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive urban development. Through partnerships with municipalities, academic institutions, cultural organisations, professional networks, and communities, Liebling Haus develops, tests, communicates, and disseminates approaches that can contribute to more inclusive, resilient, and liveable neighbourhoods.
