About

Green Skibbereen CLG is a not-for-profit organisation based in West Cork, working to inspire and support community-led climate action. We believe that real change starts locally and together. Our mission is to inspire, educate, and empower individuals, businesses, and organisations to protect the environment, promote sustainable living, reduce carbon emissions, and build a resilient community for current and future generations. Our flagship initiative, the Centre of Excellence for Climate Action and Sustainability (CECAS) ran from 2021 to 2026 at Myross Wood House, and was a space for people come to learn, connect, and take practical steps toward a more sustainable future. Founded in 2020, Green Skibbereen set up CECAS to bring climate awareness and education into the heart of rural communities. From workshops and events to nature restoration and EU research projects, we focus on empowering individuals, groups, and organisations to reduce emissions, build resilience, and restore ecosystems. CECAS was located on the stunning Myross Wood Estate, home to a 19th-century residence and a coastal woodland that includes a designated Special Area of Conservation. While under our stewardship, our team of volunteers and supporters helped bring it back to life - restoring native woodland, creating a vegetable garden, launching a tree nursery, and opening the doors to thousands of visitors through community events. As a self-funded organisation led by volunteers, we rely on collaboration, partnerships, and grant support to continue this important work. Whether it’s through hands-on climate education, sustainable land use projects, or shared learning spaces, Green Skibbereen is proud to be part of building a safer, greener West Cork- for this generation and the next.
