Just Transition Institute Greece (JTIG) is an independent policy, knowledge and cooperation platform supporting regions, cities, institutions and local stakeholders in the transition towards a climate-neutral, resilient, competitive and socially inclusive economy.
Based in Western Macedonia, one of Europe’s regions most directly affected by the phase-out of lignite, JTIG combines practical regional experience with European policy expertise. Its work focuses on just transition, sustainable regional development, industrial transformation, clean energy, innovation, entrepreneurship, skills, social inclusion, circular economy and place-based governance.
JTIG contributes through policy research, strategic planning, project development, stakeholder engagement, capacity building and participation in European programmes and networks. It supports public authorities, research institutions, businesses, civil society organisations and local communities in translating policy priorities into realistic strategies, investment concepts, pilot actions and collaborative projects.
A central objective of JTIG is to ensure that the transition creates tangible opportunities for people and territories, reduces inequalities and strengthens local economic and institutional capacity. Through evidence-based analysis, participatory approaches and European cooperation, JTIG promotes solutions that connect climate objectives with employment, innovation, social cohesion and long-term regional resilience.
