About
Bucholz McEvoy Architects was founded by Karen McEvoy and Merritt Bucholz. Our work is shape through our constant engagement with Civic architecture, we have been developing an architecture that is technologically sophisticated, inherently low energy, and oriented to human use and understanding. We believe that architecture is the crafting of connections between parallel structures human culture and nature, and the tuning of the man-made world into climate, environment, use, and construction. We take a human-centred approach to design in order that buildings are legible and useful as environments.
Our design process is lead by constant testing; leading interdisciplinary design teams in testing and simulation of structural and environmental performance, testing spatial and technological aspects through the making of physical models at many scales throughout the entire process of creating a building. We continue to test after the building is complete by working with clients to ensure the architecture is achieving what the design set out to do environmentally and functionally.
That architecture is a collaborative practice is fundamental to our view that architecture is the cultural consequence of the conversation between society’s needs, environment, structure, and climate. The transparency of the design process we conduct allows those conversations to manifest themselves in the building within an aesthetic framework, so that elements are shaped by this discussion as it traverses spatial, material, empirical, and regulatory concerns.
