The city of Caen has great historical features: medieval district, (almost) hidden treasures, historic heritage and the effervescent city with its lively café terraces. The Liberation and wartime bombardments left many traces in Caen, but the city was successfully and harmoniously rebuilt. Just a few minutes away from Caen, you can swap the urban landscape for the sandy beaches and villas of the Côte de Nacre. British and French forces landed on Sword Beach in Caen-la-Mer on 6 June 1944. Take the time to visit Sword Beach and see the vestiges and the commemoration sites, and immerse yourself in the summer of 1944 during one of the major battles of the Second World War.
