Hello Ruby

Hello Ruby is a Helsinki/Paris-based company, founded in 2014. We use storytelling and design to help people understand complex systems, especially computing and the hidden systems that shape everyday life. Our learning experiences are screen-free and hands-on: children learn by building, mapping, roleplay, tinkering, and outdoor play.

We work in three main ways: (1) internationally published books and learning materials, (2) open activity libraries and educator toolkits for schools and informal learning, and (3) public-space projects that bring learning into the city. One example is the computer-themed playground in Ruoholahti, Helsinki, where children explore ideas like inputs and outputs, networks, feedback, and algorithms through physical play.

We see learning as part of neighbourhood infrastructure: inclusive, welcoming, and rooted in place. We partner with cities, designers, educators, and community organisations to create projects that support social inclusion, local participation, and the green transition. We are especially interested in partnerships focused on:

• Co-design with children, families, schools, and local communities

• New funding models for civic learning infrastructure (blended finance, sponsorship, long-term maintenance and evaluation)
