Rooting the green transition into Local Ecological Knowledge
Associate Professor in Ethnobotany at Ca' Foscari University of Venice

About
The team of the ethnobiologist, ecologist, and artists with strong international and interdiscipinary field experience looks toward the 2026-2027 New European Bauhaus (NEB) Facility calls, seeking to build a transdisciplinary consortium focused on rooting the green transition into Local Ecological Knowledge (LEK). Our objective is to bridge the gap between high-level environmental policy and the tangible, "micro-level" reality of neighbourhoods by treating local knowledge as one of the primary drivers for innovation.
The Vision
We believe a successful green transition must be both "bottom-up" and "experience-centered." Our approach focuses on the dual dimensions of the NEB Facility:
The Human Dimension: We aim to integrate the informal knowledge systems of diverse community members—including those often sidelined in technical planning—to ensure social inclusion and strengthen local democracy. By valuing inhabitant experiences and diverse cultural heritage, we can create transition pathways that foster a genuine sense of belonging and intergenerational fairness.
The Physical Dimension: We intend to apply local ecological practices to modern landscape and greenery design. This means moving beyond "standard" greening toward regenerative, nature-positive solutions that reflect local identity, improve biodiversity, and enhance the multi-sensory and multi-species beauty of our built environment.
