CATs&DOG® – Geometry-led, modular and circular building system for reconfigurable construction on Earth and in extreme environments.

About
CATs&DOG® is a system-level innovation for the built environment that combines geometry, modularity, and circular design to enable buildings and infrastructure that can be assembled, adapted, disassembled, and reused over time.
Unlike conventional construction approaches that prioritize permanence, CATs&DOG® treats the built environment as an adaptive system—designed to respond to changing social, environmental, and functional needs while minimizing waste, material use, and embodied carbon.
How the system works
CATs&DOG® integrates:
-
Regenerative and circular design principles to design waste out from the start
-
Geometry- and origami-based structural logic for material efficiency and performance
-
Digital design and validation combined with local and mobile production
-
Modular assembly enabling rapid deployment and reconfiguration
-
Reuse and reconfiguration as an alternative to demolition
This makes the system applicable across multiple contexts, from affordable and circular housing on Earth to high-constraint and frontier environments, where adaptability, efficiency, and logistics are critical.
Development stage
CATs&DOG® is currently at TRL 2–3, supported by organizations such as Autodesk Foundation, Rabobank, and EIT Climate-KIC, with a cross-border proposal submitted to the EIC Pathfinder Challenge 2025.
Near-term development aims to reach TRL 4 through early technology development and demonstration, including space-industry validation pathways. The subsequent goal is to advance toward TRL 5–7 through EU programs such as Horizon Europe and industrial collaboration.
Type of cooperation sought
We are looking to connect with partners who want to co-create and co-develop CATs&DOG® as a system, including:
-
Design & digital technology partners (AI, computational design, simulation)
-
Production, machinery, and robotics partners
-
Construction and modular building system providers
-
Deployment partners (housing organizations, municipalities, infrastructure operators)
-
Policy, finance, and impact organizations
This partnership opportunity focuses on the CATs&DOG® system itself, while specific demonstrator projects (such as ABMC Village under HORIZON-NEB-BUSINESS-03) are listed separately.
