About

Purpose.
We are building a Nordic-European consortium for a Horizon Europe New European Bauhaus (NEB) Research & Innovation Action on how inhabitants experience neighbourhoods and how these experiences affect health, well-being, belonging, and sense of community. HORIZON-NEB-2026-01-PARTICIPATION-03.

Core idea
Neighbourhoods are living ecosystems of care. Health is shaped not only by services and infrastructure, but by how people feel, sense, and identify with their everyday environments (atmosphere, sound, materiality, nature, social rhythms).

What we test
Arts-based and spatial co-creation as rigorous research tools to surface embodied, tacit and emotional knowledge — and translate it into actionable design strategies and policy recommendations.

Why now
Ageing, isolation, inequality and climate transition require neighbourhood-scale approaches that reconnect care, culture and environment, aligned with NEB values (beautiful, sustainable, inclusive).

Our transdisciplinary team
•  Jérôme Picard — Design & Architecture (UiB/KMD)
•  Wolfgang Schmid — Music, Sound & Care Practices (UiB/KMD)
