About

Our research group investigates the bidirectional relationship between cardiovascular and mental health, with a particular focus on psychosocial risk factors, mental health symptoms, and gender and socioeconomic inequalities among patients with cardiovascular disease.

Our work includes prospective cohort studies in patients admitted to cardiology departments, assessing symptoms of depression and anxiety during hospitalisation and throughout follow-up using validated instruments such as the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7). We also examine previous mental health conditions, help-seeking behaviour, suicidal ideation, and differences according to sex, social class, and educational level.

In addition, we study exposure to violence as a chronic stressor with potentially serious consequences for both physical and mental health. Our research aims to determine the prevalence of different forms of violence among patients with cardiovascular disease and to identify gender-related disparities and their potential impact on cardiovascular and psychological outcomes.
