Material-Environment Interactions & Modelling: MEI Group

Associate Professor (Tenure) at Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies

Jelgava/Riga, Latvia

About

The Material–Environment Interactions (MEI) Group at the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU), led by Prof. Andrejs E. Krauklis, is interested in joining MSCA Doctoral Networks 2026 as a beneficiary or associated partner.

Our research combines materials science, chemistry, environmental engineering, artificial intelligence, and data science to better understand, predict, and improve the long-term performance and sustainability of polymers and composite materials.

Our expertise includes:

  • Environmental ageing and durability of polymers and fibre-reinforced composites

  • Polymer chemistry and degradation mechanisms

  • Materials informatics, cheminformatics (QSPR/QSAR), and molecular descriptors

  • Explainable machine learning for materials property and lifetime prediction

  • Spectroscopic diagnostics (FTIR, Raman) and chemometrics

  • Sustainable materials, circular economy, recycling and life-cycle assessment (LCA)

  • Digital twins and predictive maintenance of engineering materials

  • Experimental characterization (thermal, mechanical, chemical and microstructural analysis)

We are particularly interested in collaborating on Doctoral Networks related to:

  • AI for advanced materials

  • Sustainable polymers and composites

  • Circular materials systems

  • Smart sensing and structural health monitoring

  • Materials data infrastructures (FAIR data)

  • Digitalisation of materials research

  • Environmental technologies and resource efficiency

The MEI Group offers complementary expertise in materials research and data-driven modelling, and welcomes collaborations with universities, research institutes, industry, SMEs, and public organisations across Europe and beyond.
