About
CETIM is a technological centre which works with a wide range of industrial sectors (paper, chemistry, wood industry, construction sector, automotive, marine services, water treatment, etc). We work in technologies that could be applied to solve several industrial problems, generating virtuous loops of circular economy.
If you are looking for partners to prepare a CBE proposal I would like to invite you to have a look in the document attached to this opportunity.
The research lines of CETIM include:
Advanced Materials Research in lignocellulosic materials Physical-chemical treatment of wood to improve production processes and products. Extraction, physical-chemical modification and valorisation of Wood derivatives: lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose. High added value applications from lignocellulosic components: nanofibers for different matrices, plasticizers, surfactants, biopolymers and coatings, etc. Polymeric materials & coatings Manufacturing technologies and development of new thermoplastic and thermoset polymeric formulations of synthetic origin, bio and recycled (commodity and technical polymers). Innovative technologies for moulding and application (3D printing). Polymers printed molecularly and ionically for environmental remediation. Sustainable building materials Asphalt and bituminous mixtures: development of new formulations from waste and biomaterials for environmental remediation. New sustainable cements, mortars and concretes optimized on demand. Moulding methodologies (3D Printing). Optimization and evaluation of performance of new additives for pavement and construction formulations. Materials for energy storage Research and development of advanced bio-based materials based on composites and coatings for anode, additives for electrolytes, solid / semi-solid electrolytes and separators for high energy density electrochemical cells. Research on advanced bio-based materials for hydrogen storage with high specific surface area and adsorption capacity. ECO BIO Technologies Water and air treatment Advanced oxidation processes, membrane technologies, biological treatments, electrochemical processes, adsorption/absorption technologies, nature-based solutions. Circular economy applied to water management: resource recovery, effluent regeneration, energy production… Emerging bio-based technologies Bio-catalysts (bacteria, fungi, microalgae, enzyme) for biorecovery processes (protein extraction, fatty acids, valuable metals…), bioremediation (metal recovery, microplastics removal, etc.) and biodegradation of plastics. Enzymatic and/or biological pre-treatments for energy improvement and performance of processes. Biorefineries and new value chains New biorefinery models, circular economy oriented towards Zero Waste. Obtention of biopolymers and development of applications. Thermochemical processes for the recovery of relevant compounds from agricultural and forest biomass. Technologies for the valorisation of organic waste (biogas, compost, H2). Obtention of biofertilizers and recovery of nutrients from secondary sources. Formulation of fertilizers, technosoils and amendments. Soil regeneration. Digital Industry Digital Systems Digital Twins: design of virtual models of production plants and lines; simulation and optimization of new production processes; monitoring of processes through integration with sensor networks. Blockchain: design and implementation of blockchain solutions for traceability in the supply chain; integration of IoT devices and development of decentralised applications. HMI: Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality applications. Artificial Intelligence: design of advanced data analysis algorithms and machine learning. Code implementation and application integration for: image recognition, predictive systems, decision support systems, etc. Internet of Things Smart Sensors: photonic sensors; infrared spectrometry; multi-spectrum image analysis. Sensor networks: design and implementation of wireless sensor and actuator networks (WSAN); development of multi-platform firmware and software.
