Skin Temperature Monitoring at Intravenous Catheters (IVCs) Insertion Sites

Senior Engineer at RADIO6ENSE

Rome, Italy

About

RADIO6ENSE presents its IoT-based medical platform providing real-time, non-invasive skin temperature monitoring at Intravenous Catheter (IVC) insertion sites. By replacing periodic manual inspections with continuous digital surveillance, it enables early detection of silent complications like inflammation, extravasation, and phlebitis without disrupting patient comfort or mobility.

Ultra-thin, flexible, and battery-less patches featuring a temperature sensor are applied at the insertion site for precise local thermal readings. A compact weareble reader wirelessly collects data from the patch and relays data via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). An Android app transmits aggregated data to the cloud (via Wi-Fi or 4G/5G), presenting live multi-patient tracking and historical trends on web-based dashboards. Immediate notifications are sent to medical staff when thermal thresholds are exceeded or signals are lost.

With this solution, 24/7 automated monitoring replaces subjective spot checks, building a full thermal history of the catheter lifecycle. Thel lightweight, wearable design of the sensor patches and reader allows patients to move freely in bed or around the clinic without loss of data, as well as the cable-free design reduces hospital installation costs and avoids workflow disruptions.
