WCIS Topic 2: Enhancing Space Industry Collaboration: MBSE-Driven Solutions for Primes & Suppliers
- MBSE
- Space industry
- Collaboration and Information Exchange
- Suppliers
- World Cafe Interactive Session
This topic is part of the World-Cafe Interactive Session, participants will be moving to another topic after 30 minutes discussion.
Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is increasingly adopted by ESA and major aerospace primes, while many suppliers and subcontractors are just beginning their MBSE journey and often lack the same resources and expertise. These organizations seek guidance to align with future expectations. Simultaneously, primes can benefit from understanding the MBSE maturity and challenges faced by their suppliers.
Historically, collaboration between primes and suppliers has been document-based. Transitioning to MBSE requires new modes of cooperation, both vertically (primes to suppliers) and horizontally (among suppliers).
To address these needs, an interactive workshop—co-led by prime and supplier representatives—uses roundtable discussions to foster open dialogue and practical outcomes. The workshop includes four 30-minute sessions, each following:
• Introduction (5 min)
• Problem identification from both perspectives (10 min)
• Grouping of key issues (5 min)
• Exploring collaboration solutions (10 min)
Objectives and Takeaways:
-
Define Collaboration Challenges – Understand stakeholder needs and key MBSE barriers.
Takeaway: Clear view of collaboration issues. -
Define Collaboration Solutions – Discover existing and future practices for MBSE integration.
Takeaway: Practical MBSE solutions. -
Build Community – Identify stakeholders for ongoing collaboration.
Takeaway: Participation in future initiatives.
The workshop aims to bridge MBSE maturity gaps, foster mutual understanding, and lay the groundwork for long-term collaboration in the space sector.
