Why settle for one MBSE tool when you can have an ecosystem?
- MBSE
- Data Exchange
- Tool integration
Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) has been chosen as a technology to solve complexity of system design and engineering. But the adaptation of MBSE is hard. Not only are MBSE tools inherently complex, they also use different notation systems as their basis, from OSMoSE ontologies to the emerging standard of SysML v2, and are built using different tech stacks, from Eclipse Modeling Project to the .NET Framework.
Steep learning curves make switching expensive, so engineers tend to stick to one tool. This results in a vendor lock-in and hampers the free flow of the data between teams and companies working together on a system design.
LionWeb changes that. LionWeb is a set of open-source standards that creates an ecosystem of interoperable, technology-independent components for building modeling tools. Modeling tools that support the LionWeb protocol can exchange not only models (data) with each other, but also languages describing these models (meta-data). As a result we can bridge not only the technological gap between tools, but also the semantic gap between the tools used.
At the center of the LionWeb architecture is the LionWeb repository. The repository plays the role of a centralized data catalog where all data is available, and access is request-based and specific for different domains and tools. The LionWeb repository is a highly-scalable tool – we have a case storing 10 million nodes – that can store and exchange models from many different domains and ontologies.
We will demonstrate how LionWeb can be used in different domains and with different MBSE tools, and demonstrate the LionWeb repository. Moreover, we invite participants to influence the LionWeb roadmap and requirements. Come shape the future of modeling interoperability with us!
Our team of highly-experienced modeling experts from all over Europe is looking for your feedback and use cases, and is eager to solve your problems.
