Mastering MBSE Engineering Data: A Hands-On Tutorial with ArianeGroup's Shadox Software Suite

Location:GAMMA hallTrack:Day 3 - Track 3

Effective data engineering is often the forgotten pillar of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), leading to version conflicts, broken dependencies, and a lack of a single source of truth. This hands-on workshop addresses this critical challenge head-on, presenting a combat-proven solution used to manage the complexity of Europe's space launch systems.

Participants will dive into Shadox, the software suite developed and used by ArianeGroup to ensure data integrity and streamline collaboration across engineering teams. The session will begin with a concise introduction to the principles of robust data management in MBSE, followed by a guided tutorial on the core functionalities of Shadox: creating and subscribing to parameters, managing versions, and checking data against a reference library.

The majority of the workshop is dedicated to a realistic, team-based simulation. Divided into cross-disciplinary teams, you will experience a full system engineering cycle. Each team will:

  • Import system requirements and parameters into a dedicated dataset.

  • Execute calculations using provided scripts (e.g., Jupyter, Excel) to process inputs.

  • Publish new data versions to the shared repository.

  • Update dependencies based on new releases from other teams and a central library.

By the end of this session, you will have a practical understanding of how to overcome common MBSE data management pitfalls. You will leave with hands-on experience in using a dedicated tool to maintain a synchronized and reliable engineering data configuration, ready to apply these principles to your own complex projects.
