Training: Introduction to the ESA MBSE Methodology

Location:GAMMA hallTrack:Day 1 - Track 3

The ESA MBSE Methodology was released publicly in February 2022, following many years of internal use of MBSE and SysML technologies. The methodology was developed to support systems engineers in modeling space missions using their familiar concepts and engineering artefacts, aligned with ECSS standards—while abstracting away the complexities of SysML.

Since its release, the methodology has been applied in various ESA and non-ESA missions, including Argonaut, Euclid, Plato, and MSR-ERO (Mars Sample Return – Earth Return Orbiter). It is distributed under the ESA Community License type 2, and is available for both Cameo Systems Modeler / CATIA Magic and Enterprise Architect.

In this session, participants will learn:

  • Why the methodology was created

  • The different layers/viewpoints of the methodology

  • A comparison with other MBSE methodologies

  • How to get started with the methodology

  • How to apply it correctly in projects

  • The future roadmap of the methodology
