Arcadia and Capella Tutorial for Space Systems

The training will introduce Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using the Arcadia methodology and the Capella tool. Participants will learn how to model space systems by identifying capabilities and breaking them down into activities. They will be guided through Arcadia diagrams, including the Operational Architecture Blank for capturing entities and activities, and the System Architecture Blank for capturing functions.

   • Operational Analysis

   • System Needs Analysis

   • Logical Architecture

   • Physical Architecture

3. Capella Tool Introduction

   • Capella tool features (e.g., semantic browser, viewpoint manager, plugins, etc.)

   • Capella models and library models

   • Project explorer and activity explorer

4. Hands-on Exercise

   • Exercise Option 1: Leveraging satellite system design — how to model system, ground segments, and subsystems

   • Exercise Option 2: Modeling a CubeSat Payload System
     (The preferable option will be chosen based on participants' feedback.)

By the end of this training session, participants will:

1. Understand the Big Picture of MBSE Principles

   • Grasp the importance of MBSE in modern engineering processes

2. Learn Capella’s Key Features

   • Gain insights into Capella’s user interface, main functionalities, and features

   • Understand the differences between perspectives and when/how to apply each

3. Apply Capella to Space Systems

   • Gain practical experience modeling systems relevant to the space domain
