Research Center

Würzburg, Germany

For more than 60 years, the SKZ - German Plastic Center has been dedicated to research and development, testing, training and further education of specialists and managers, as well as the certification of management systems in the field of plastics. As a non-university research institution with more than 180 staff in 16 research groups, SKZ addresses all important research topics related to plastics – from materials to processing to quality assurance, including the topics of digitalization as well as sustainability and circular economy – and is currently working on more than 100 publicly funded national and international research projects per year. Together with the excellent mechanical equipment in our own technical centres, this also supports a diverse and very practical technology transfer through professional training, conference and networking activities. Every year, for example, more than 10,000 participants take advantage of these SKZ information services at six locations in Germany and at in-house training courses worldwide.

About me

After training in agriculture, Dr. Benedikte Hatz studied agricultural sciences at the universities of Bonn, Weihenstephan-Munich and Florida. After completing her doctorate on genetic diversity in crops, she was initially responsible for the promotion and financing of biotech start-ups for the biotechnology network BioM AG in Munich-Martinsried. After several years in the management of a biotech start-up, she was managing director of netzwerk-nordbayern, an initiative of the Free State of Bavaria for the promotion and venture capital financing of high-tech start-ups and organizer of the North Bavarian business plan competition, until 2014. Until her start at SKZ, she supported various life science spin-offs, especially from the University of Würzburg, with project management, financing, business development and management, among other things. At the SKZ, together with research groups of the SKZ, she is now responsible, among other things, for the acquisition of public research funds as well as the formation and management of larger collaborative research projects for important questions of applied research for the plastics industry.
