SHE Conference

Ageing societies, a shortage of care professionals, and widening socio-economic health disparities are pressing societal challenges, calling for a transformation in how we design, organise, and experience our living and care environments. These transformations highlight the need for empathic design and buildings that respond to diverse human needs, preferences and contexts and promote inclusivity, comfort, and wellbeing. The housing and care sectors must evolve to address these issues through living adaptations. Such innovations extend beyond technology, also, including spatial design strategies, community-based innovation, and smart, human-centred governance and policy.

This transition requires close collaboration between housing, care, and technology sectors to understand, embrace, and respond to these complex challenges. By integrating design, technology, and social and behavioural insights, fostering the adoption and embedding of smart care and living technologies, supporting community-based innovation, and developing robust and collaborative governance frameworks, we can shape empathic environments that promote both individual wellbeing and the collective health of communities.

During this international scientific conference, organised by DEEL and ACE, we invite contributions that present state-of-the-art research and practice transforming health, housing, care, and everyday living.
