I am Captain (Ret.) and PhD in Ocean Engineering, now focused on Remote Operations for surveys and support offshore operations.
My organisation
OceanPact is a leading organization dedicated to environmental solutions for the maritime industry. Our team of experts combines technical expertise with a deep commitment to protecting and preserving our oceans. We provide innovative services and products that address pollution prevention, emergency response, and environmental restoration, supporting sustainable practices within the maritime sector. Together, we work towards a cleaner and healthier future for our planet's most precious resource: the ocean.
OceanPact is both a system developer and service provider company. We own 28 support vessels, including Research Vessels, Oil Spill Recovery Vessels, Offshore Support Vessels, ROV Support Vessels, Anchor Handling Vessels. We are ready for multipurpose missions for a broad range services for the offshore industry as atated above.
At OceanPact we are strengthening the area for autonomous vehicles with different levels of human interaction. USV, ROV, AUV, UAV are all of interest for many different applications from surveys, offshore support and subsea engineering. We have many partners abroad and we are totally open for new partners and technologies to be integrated in our solutions.

About me
Leonardo Barreira has a PhD in Ocean Engineering, in the area of Oceanographic Instrumentation and Underwater Acoustics. He is also a Hydrographer, Captain (Ret.) from Brazilian Navy. In his career he has spent about 6 years at sea, mostly in Survey Vessels (both Hydrographic and Oceanographic) and around 15 years dedicated to R&D, at Navy Research Institutes. He also held the position of a warship commander.
In his international experience, Leonardo Barreira participated in the Brazilian Antarctic Program and in scientific exchange programs with the University of Algarve, in Portugal, and at the Center National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), in France. He took part, also, in many international meetings and conferences.
In 2021, after 30 years dedicated to the Navy, Barreira became a veteran and accepted an invitation to join OceanPact, a leading company for the offshore industry sector in Brazil. He is currently dedicated to developing the company's Research and Development sector, focusing on the areas of Ocean Instrumentation, especially integration of sensors and technical payloads; and remotely piloted autonomous vehicles, an area that is gaining more and more space in the offshore industry as technology advances and allows new tasks to be accomplished in a remote operations environment.
