About

HandCOMM – Signalman Communication Assist System (SCAS)

HandCOMM is an advanced AI-powered communication system designed to eliminate miscommunication during crane lifting operations—especially high-risk blind lifts, where operators cannot see the load or the slinger/signaller. Traditional tools such as 2-way radios and hand signals often fail due to noise, interference, language barriers, and restricted visibility. These failures contribute significantly to global lifting accidents and fatalities, highlighting the need for a modern, reliable communication solution.

The System

HandCOMM integrates three intelligent modules working together in real time:

AI Sensory Glove – Equipped with motion-detection sensors, the glove interprets standardised hand signals and transmits them wirelessly.

Helmet Module – Receives the verified signal and provides 4K visual support of blind zones, improving situational awareness.

Operator Display Module – Delivers clear audio-visual instructions using animations, multi-language voice output, and confirmation prompts.

A complementary 5G mobile app enables configuration, monitoring, and remote operation via Apple or Android devices.

Key Features

Real-time AI recognition of universal hand signals

Weatherproof, interference-free communication

Multi-language audio/visual cues for multicultural teams

5G, Bluetooth, and wireless connectivity

Black-box data logging for productivity analysis and incident investigation

No radio noise, no signal licensing requirements

VR training module (in development) for safe skill acquisition

Safety & Operational Impact

By converting hand signals into confirmed digital commands, HandCOMM removes ambiguity and dramatically reduces errors that lead to accidents. The system enhances productivity, supports regulatory compliance, improves site safety culture, and provides reliable evidence in the event of an incident. It is the first communication-level AI system designed specifically for crane operations.
