BioStud: hemp-based stud for partition walls
CEO at BioTwin
London, United Kingdom
About
BioTwin has developed a high-performance wall stud made from hemp fibre, hemp shiv, and a thermoplastic binder. Our stud is a direct replacement for steel in non-loadbearing partitions and is currently 71.5% lower in embodied carbon than common steel alternatives (based on two independent LCAs). With scale, we can reduce carbon impact by up to 95%, approaching carbon neutrality. Our BioStud has passed 60- and 120-minute fire resistance tests, supports partitions up to 3.6m high, and delivers acoustic insulation up to 55 dB RW — all while being easy to install using standard tools.
If interested in trialling the studs in your building project, please contact kit@biotwin.co.uk.
