Youth For Climate in The Amazon
Lead on Brazil / Manager/ Executive committee member at Cultural Survival

About
One way to promote climate justice is to ensure that groups historically
excluded from decision-making are at the center of the debate. Indigenous
Peoples, Quilombolas, and Local Communities have been recognized as
fundamental in the process of ensuring climate balance and reducing the
current crisis. However, year after year, greenhouse gas emissions break new
records, and the increase in global average temperature reaches
unprecedented levels. Therefore, swift action is needed to reduce
inequalities and improve the quality of life in traditional territories.
Eighteen undergraduate students from the Brazilian Amazon were selected
to collectively become agents of change. Each young person will develop
their own plan for adapting to and addressing climate change in their
community, listing priorities and ways to implement the planned actions.
Between July 15 and 17, 2025, everyone will gather in Brasilia to further
explore the latent issues that have been addressed over the past few
months. This will also be a time to refine their plans.
