Daniel Netzl is a Master’s student in Artificial Intelligence at Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria, currently conducting research on the societal and ecological implications of AI. His work bridges technical insight with critical theory, focusing on how AI reshapes global power structures, resource extraction, and narratives of progress. Alongside his academic work, he actively engages in grassroots initiatives for biodiversity, local politics, and sustainable digital infrastructure.
I’m Daniel Netzl, an AI Master’s student at JKU Linz and Data Scientist at Siemens Austria. I care deeply about environmental justice and ethical tech. My research focuses on the global impacts of AI - especially the hidden ecological costs and how they’re discussed in Western narratives. I also work on local sustainability projects in my rural community, from revitalizing hiking trails to promoting biodiversity. I believe we need new ideas of progress - rooted in care, fairness, and limits.
