BioPods: Unlocking New Strategic Biomass Resources for the Bioeconomy

Growth & Sustainability Strategist, co-founder at Nantoo Srl SB

Milano, Italy

About

This project aims to unlock the value of non-food biomass feedstocks, particularly leaves and other lignocellulosic biomass originating from urban green management, horticulture, landscaping and perennial crops such as olive groves, orchards, chestnut groves, hazelnut orchards and almond plantations. These resources are abundant, renewable and widely distributed across territories, yet remain largely underutilised despite their strategic potential as new feedstocks for the European circular bioeconomy.

The initiative seeks to develop a replicable value chain model capable of transforming these biomasses from a management cost into an industrial resource. Nantoo's BioPods® system enables biomass collection, volume reduction, standardisation and traceability, creating the conditions required for their use as reliable feedstocks in industrial processes. Activities may include biomass stabilisation, fibre recovery, extraction of bioactive compounds and the development of intermediates for bio-based materials, biopolymers, paper, green chemistry and other high-value applications.

The project also aims to contribute to the development of new bio-based value chains, fostering collaboration among research organisations, industry, territories and public institutions. We are seeking industrial partners, research organisations, investors and stakeholders interested in collaborative projects and European partnerships focused on the industrial valorisation of residual biomass through scalable, measurable and replicable solutions.
