About me

Passionate Biologist with nearly 20 years of experience specializing in Bioenergetics of plants, fungi, and bacteria. Proficient in bridging the gap between scientific research and effective management practices.

In 2012, I transitioned into a leadership role as the Director of Cooperation and Representation at the Tropical Research Institute in Portugal. During my tenure, I successfully navigated the complexities of managing scientific projects and fostering collaboration within the research community.

For five years, I served as the Executive Director of the Portuguese Node of ELIXIR, where I also held the position of Deputy Head of Node. In this capacity, I led strategic initiatives and coordinated efforts to advance bioinformatics and data management solutions in life sciences research.

Since 2023, I have had the honor of serving as the Executive Director of the Microbial Resource Research Infrastructure (MIRRI-ERIC), driving innovation and facilitating access to microbial resources for scientific communities worldwide.

In addition to my leadership roles, I have spearheaded initiatives to nurture the next generation of scientists. I established an international PhD Program in Tropical Knowledge and Management with NOVA School of Business and Economics, and developed a Training Program in Data Management for the Life Sciences with ELIXIR Portugal, empowering aspiring researchers with the skills and knowledge needed for success in their fields.

My academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences and a degree in Plant Biology, complemented by postgraduate studies in General Management and an MBA in Research Infrastructures.

I am dedicated to leveraging my expertise to advance scientific discovery, foster collaboration, and drive positive change in the field of life sciences.
