About
TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center’s Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Research Group (HYPTAG) conducts project-based R&D covering the complete hydrogen value chain, from production and conversion to storage, system integration, safety and end-use applications. The group combines advanced laboratory infrastructure with multidisciplinary expertise to develop, test and demonstrate hydrogen and fuel-cell technologies at component, stack and system levels.
HYPTAG’s core competencies include green hydrogen production through PEM and alternative electrolyser technologies; development of advanced electrocatalysts, membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs/CCMs), gas diffusion electrodes, bipolar plates and flow-field designs; and the design, testing and integration of fuel-cell and electrolyser stacks. The group also develops balance-of-plant components, including hydrogen generation units, humidification systems, data-acquisition and control systems, power-conditioning units and real-time monitoring platforms. Its activities extend to hydrogen storage, hydrogen safety, digital twin modelling and integration with renewable energy systems, microgrids, mobility applications and positive energy districts.
Complementing its hydrogen expertise, HYPTAG is expanding its activities in carbon utilisation and renewable fuel production. These activities include CO₂ electrolysis for the production of carbon-based intermediates and the integration of green hydrogen with captured CO₂ for e-methanol and other e-fuel synthesis pathways. Particular attention is given to catalyst and electrode development, reactor and process design, system integration, energy efficiency, product selectivity and scale-up toward pilot-scale demonstration.
TÜBİTAK MAM is interested in joining national and international consortia as an R&D, technology-development and demonstration partner. Potential collaboration areas include advanced materials and components, electrolyser and fuel-cell development, CO₂ conversion, e-methanol and e-fuel production, system modelling and optimisation, renewable energy integration, pilot-scale validation and technology demonstration in relevant industrial environments.
