Biotechnologies and new protein supply chains: from by-product recovery to alternative proteins
This Biotech4Food upskilling event (held in Italian) will explore the state of the art of alternative protein production in the Emilia-Romagna region (Italy), with a focus on the role of innovative biotechnologies in developing sustainable food ingredients and products.
The event will highlight cutting-edge technologies and processes for extracting high-value nutritional ingredients from agri-food by-products. It also addresses the development of animal-based products partially substituted or enriched with recovered plant protein concentrates, supporting biomass valorisation and the transition to circular economy models.
Participants will gain insights from Emilia-Romagna-based companies active in food biotechnology. Special attention will be given to protein recovery and valorisation from agri-food residues: plant-based solutions presented by Food & Flavours, and animal-based applications illustrated by Amadori.
The event concludes with Biosphere, showcasing innovative biotechnological approaches to protein production through fermentation processes, including systems using agri-food waste matrices.
