NovaCO2: Renewable Fuel via Electrochemical CO2 Reduction
Postdoc at Technical University of Denmark
Copenhagen, Denmark
About
NovaCO2 develops a low-cost, metal-free electrode for electrochemical CO2-to-CO conversion using renewable electricity. The electrode is derived from an abundant and low-value biomass by-product, and engineered to create catalytic sites without noble metals or heteroatom doping.
Our proof of concept achieves >90% Faradaic efficiency for CO in a flow-cell configuration, demonstrating the potential for scalable CO2 conversion. CO can serve as a building block for syngas, methanol, e-fuels and other chemicals.
NovaCO2 aims to support the growing Power-to-X ecosystem in Denmark, Europe and globally by combining captured CO2, renewable electricity and circular carbon resources. The next stage focuses on electrode scale-up, long-term stability, manufacturing optimization, techno-economic and life-cycle assessment, and industrial validation.
The technology is supported by a DKK 150K DTU Discovery Grant, with DTU preparing the patent application. Further funding and industrial partnerships will enable pilot-scale development and commercialization through the NovaCO2 pre-start-up.
