elementarhy MEA & PTE – Plasma-Coated Electrodes and 5-Layer MEAs for PEM Electrolysis Stacks with up to 95 % Less Iridium

About
The MEA (membrane electrode assembly) is the core of every PEM electrolyzer, and it largely determines how long a stack lasts and what it costs. elementarhy supplies stack manufacturers with two Tier 2 components:
-
PTE/GDE: porous transport and gas diffusion electrodes coated directly with catalyst
-
MEA5: a fully integrated 5-layer MEA
Atomic-scale coating instead of slurry: Conventional catalyst layers are blade-coated from a slurry. They are about 10 µm thick, rely on PFAS binders, and distribute iridium inefficiently. elementarhy uses a patented alternating plasma coating process to produce a nanoporous catalyst layer only about 50 nm thick. The catalyst is placed precisely where it is active. As a result, the electrodes need only 0.05–0.3 mg/cm² of iridium or platinum, compared with the usual 1–3 mg/cm². That is roughly 20× less precious metal, which matters because global iridium supply is limited and highly concentrated.
