About

Faculty of Civil Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology

Established in 1915 as one of the founding faculties, the Faculty of Civil Engineering boasts an academic heritage tracing back to 1826. Recognized for its leading role in construction engineering, the Faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Civil Engineering, focusing on Sustainable Building, Railways, Transportation Engineering, Building Production Engineering, and Structural Engineering.

Research and Academic Excellence

The Faculty is a prominent center for scientific research in structural mechanics, material engineering, construction management, and transport engineering. Research efforts span material strength, structural stability, dynamic impact assessment, and sustainable construction. Projects are primarily funded through European, national, and public research programs, in collaboration with industry partners and global academic institutions.

Department of Theoretical Mechanics, Pavement Mechanics, and Railway Engineering

The department specializes in:

  • Pavement and airport runway design, dynamics and rheology (Bisar, VEroad etc.)

  • Constitutive modeling of engineering materials in elastic, viscus and plastic range (e.g., soils, asphalt mixtures, concrete, shape-memory alloys)

  • Structural vibration analysis due to transportation loads, vibration impact assessments for buildings and infrastructure

  • Stability of structures on soil substrates

  • Advanced computational analysis, including FEM applications (commercial lic. Abaqus)

  • Numerical FEM analyses and simulations using the Discrete Element Method (DEM).
