About

V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University is one of Ukraine’s leading classical universities and a major centre of education and research. Founded in 1804, it combines a long academic tradition with broad expertise across the natural sciences, medicine, engineering, social sciences and humanities.

The University currently comprises 14 faculties and 15 educational and research institutes and offers 275 educational programmes, including 111 bachelor’s, 129 master’s and 35 PhD programmes. More than 15,800 students study at Karazin University, including international students from 25 countries, together with almost 900 PhD students.

Research and education are supported by more than 3,000 staff members, including professors, doctors of sciences, researchers and members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The University has strong expertise in biodiversity, ecology, biology, medicine, physics, chemistry, environmental sciences, artificial intelligence, engineering and other fields.

Karazin University has extensive experience in international research cooperation and participation in European programmes. It maintains around 300 bilateral cooperation agreements with institutions in 61 countries and collaborates with universities and research organisations throughout Europe and beyond.

The University is particularly interested in strengthening international partnerships in biodiversity research, environmental monitoring, ecosystem restoration, climate change, molecular biology and genomics, One Health, sustainable development, digital technologies and interdisciplinary research.

Despite operating under the conditions of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Karazin University continues its research, teaching and international cooperation and remains committed to academic freedom, scientific excellence and the integration of Ukrainian science into the European Research Area.

Karazin University is consistently ranked among the leading Ukrainian universities, including high positions in international rankings and national research performance indicators.
