About

AMIRANI is a newly established non-profit organisation based in Thessaloniki, Greece. It brings together research, evidence-based policy and community participation to support the resilience of people, communities and ecosystems. Its areas of interest include environmental resilience, biodiversity, public health, sustainable food systems, social inclusion and participatory governance.

Its work is structured around three interconnected pillars and six thematic areas:

Pillar A: Human Mobility, Displacement and Rights

  1. Migration, Refugee Populations and Social Inclusion: Supporting inclusion, equal participation, intercultural dialogue and the rights of migrants, refugees and other displaced people.

  2. Climate Migration, Environmental Displacement and Population Mobility: Exploring how climate change, environmental degradation and disasters affect mobility, rights and the resilience of communities at risk of displacement.

Pillar B: Environmental Resilience, Sustainable Resource Management and Food Security

  1. Climate Change, Environmental Sustainability and Public Health: Addressing climate adaptation, environmental risks, biodiversity and ecosystem protection, nature-based solutions, sustainable resource management and the links between environmental change and health.

  2. Food Security, Sustainable Agri-Food Systems and One Health: Exploring resilient food systems, sustainable agriculture, soil health and the interconnected health of people, animals and ecosystems.

Pillar C: Psychosocial Well-being, Social Cohesion, Community Empowerment and Social Innovation

  1. Psychosocial Well-being and Social Support: Considering how crises, disasters and environmental change affect well-being, particularly among vulnerable communities.

  2. Community Empowerment, Social Innovation and Participatory Governance: Promoting inclusive participation, co-creation, capacity building and community involvement in decisions and solutions that affect them.

AMIRANI comprises two founding members. Christiana Polyzou is an Environmental Engineer with a PhD in Atmospheric Science and more than 15 years of professional experience in environmental management, climate change, sustainability and European projects. Her individual experience includes climate risk and resilience assessment, environmental monitoring, support for habitat and species conservation assessment, local sustainability planning and collaboration with public authorities. The other founding member is a lawyer. Both are postgraduate students in “Global Health – Crisis Management” at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

As a newly established organisation, AMIRANI has not yet implemented projects of its own. It draws on the complementary backgrounds of its founders and seeks to build collaborations with research institutions, public authorities and civil society organisations.

For the Horizon Europe NATURE Call, AMIRANI is particularly interested in the relationship between biodiversity, environmental change and human health through a One Health approach. We welcome partnerships connecting biodiversity research with climate resilience, ecosystem restoration, nature-based solutions and community well-being. Depending on the project’s needs, AMIRANI could contribute, indicatively, to environmental and climate risk assessment, environmental monitoring, sustainability analysis and the study of environmental determinants of health, as well as stakeholder engagement, participatory research, policy analysis and capacity building.
