PORTBIOSEC – Integrated Detection, Monitoring and Treatment System to Prevent Invasive Alien Species at EU Borders
OPERATIONS MANAGER at FUMI-HOGAR
MALAGA, Spain
About
FUMI-HOGAR (Spain) is developing PORTBIOSEC, a project concept targeting HORIZON-NATURE-2027-02-04 to prevent the introduction of invasive alien species (IAS) through international trade and logistics.
The concept proposes an integrated Detection-to-Neutralisation approach for ports and border facilities:
DETECTION → IDENTIFICATION → RISK ASSESSMENT → CONTAINMENT → TREATMENT → VERIFICATION → TRACEABILITY.
FUMI-HOGAR would contribute its autonomous dry microdispersion technology and expertise in fumigant formulations, adapting targeted treatments for containers and fixed treatment facilities. The project would investigate effective solutions against selected IAS while minimising operational disruption and environmental impact.
Potential demonstrations would include treatment directly inside freight containers and automated treatment units integrated into port biosecurity infrastructure.
We are looking for partners with expertise in:
• IAS detection and identification (sensors, AI, computer vision, eDNA, acoustic or smart traps);
• IoT and container monitoring;
• invasive species, entomology and ecology;
• ports, customs and competent border/environmental authorities;
• logistics and shipping;
• biosecurity infrastructure and treatment systems;
• post-treatment verification and environmental impact assessment.
Our objective is to build a multidisciplinary consortium and demonstrate an integrated, scalable border biosecurity solution under real operational conditions.
