About me
I have 20+ years of academic research and industry R&D experience on emerging technologies and sustainable development, with emphasis on applications of machine learning and immersive technologies for health and wellbeing --- PhD in Physics from University of Padova (2001). My research focusses on the integration between core technology development and human-centred design to facilitate the achievement of positive impact within operational settings. My interdisciplinary work has led to the establishment of a broad international network of academic, industry, and clinical collaborators.
Formerly project leader in the pharmaceutical sector, I have worked closely with clinicians, biologists, statisticians, mathematicians, sociologists, psychologists, and engineering designers. This has enabled me to develop a robust understanding of multidisciplinary collaboration dynamics as well as a deep appreciation of knowledge exchange and research exploitation pathways.
I was previously staff member at University College London (UCL), Lund University and the University of Padova, Honorary Research Scientist with the UCL Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and Visiting Scientist at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. I have collaborated with large enterprises such as Eli Lilly & Co and QinetiQ, as well as with several small and medium-sized companies.
I am a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Health and Wellbeing Lead and Co-Head of External Engagement and Partnerships with the Brunel Centre for AI, and a Member of the Peer Review College of the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
I am the Director of the Integrated Product Design MSc Programme and Year 3 Tutor at Brunel Design, and teach electronics and computer/microcontroller programming.
Having established new research collaborations with 50+ businesses since 2020, I am available to explore opportunities for joint R&D bids, consultancy, and student projects.
