About

With its Virtual Reality Center Production Engineering (VRCP) laboratory, the Chair of Production Systems and Processes at Chemnitz University of Technology has one of the best-equipped VR/AR laboratories worldwide. The available equipment covers the entire spectrum from large projective VR systems (5-sided CAVE) to various VR-HMD. In addition, various OST-HMDs, projectors and tablets are available at the VRCP in order to achieve full spectrum coverage in the AR area as well. Furthermore, optical (VICON) and inertial-based (XSENS) motion analysis systems exist. A unique feature is a KUKA iiwa robot which can be used as a haptic input device for VR training and which allows the simulation of high forces, such as those that occur during endoprosthetic surgery. Since the VRCP was founded in 2003, numerous AR/VR training and assistance systems have been developed for a wide range of applications. In the process, an international pioneering role in the haptic simulation of large forces for hip replacement surgery training has been established. Due to the breadth of equipment, the many years of research and development experience as well as the international excellence in the high-force haptic simulation field, the Chair of Production Systems and Processes can contribute a complete testbed as well as the associated know-how for all virtual training simulations as a unique selling point to any consortia.
