Networking Rooms / HERITAGE-08: Safeguarding & transmission of intangible cultural heritage
HORIZON-CL2-2027-01-HERITAGE-08 is a Research and Innovation Action under the Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society call, with a €12M total budget and €3.00–4.00M expected per project.
The call funds research on safeguarding and transmitting Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) — living traditions, practices, and knowledge passed between generations, per the 2003 UNESCO Convention. Aims include mapping the state of ICH safeguarding in Europe, understanding threats to its erosion, exploring digital/audio-visual tools for documentation and transmission, empowering communities (especially youth) in intergenerational transmission, and informing innovative cultural policy — including links between ICH and biodiversity.
Proposals should address research questions on ICH's state of play, threats, effective safeguarding strategies, the role of digital technology, ICH as inspiration for societal challenges, and community-led safeguarding. Work should be transdisciplinary (heritage studies, anthropology, ethnology, musicology, etc.), build on existing EU-funded platforms (e.g. ECCCH, Common European Data Space for Cultural Heritage), and link to the related 2025 HERITAGE-02 project.
