The aim of our research, development, and innovation activities (RDI) is to develop society and working life, and to be an active player in the regional and national innovation system. Novia UAS had 181 active projects year 2024 and the total value of the project portfolio was approximately 28.6 million euro.

Novia UAS collaborate with municipalities, organisations, and companies to support and strengthen our own regions. Through these collaborations we also strengthen our teaching. We collaborate with other universities both nationally and internationally. We work according to Agenda 2030's sustainability goals.

Competence, Commitment, and Sustainability

Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) means producing new knowledge, new or improved products, methods, and services through systematic and methodological work.

Novia UAS RDI activities follow the definitions of Statistics Finland and take place mainly in various projects financed largely by external funds. Innovation activities follow the guidelines set out in the National Roadmap for Research, Development and Innovation. 

Research, Development, and Innovation are rooted in education and the needs of working life. Novia UAS has six Research Areas which form the basis of the faculties RDI activities. List of projects. 

Novias Project Portfolio

During the year, 181 projects were ongoing at Novia UAS, and the total value of the project portfolio was approximately 28,6 million euros. Distribution by Research Area (Sustainable Technology 25%, Maritime Technology 20%, Wellbeing in Society 10%, Sustainable Businesses and Societes 9%, Culture as Force for Change 13%, Transformative Pathways in Bioeconomy 23% of the portfolio’s value).

Novia offers a broad selection of degree programmes, ranging from bachelor's to master's level studies. We also provide opportunities for lifelong learning through Open UAS courses, continuing education courses, and specialization studies.

As an entrepreneurial university of applied sciences with strong connections to both students and working life. Novia plays an active role in strengthening expertise in bilingual Finland and advancing sustainable societal development. We are committed to ensuring accessible, people-centred services in Swedish.

Thanks to its cultural and linguistic expertise, Novia has extensive and practical collaboration throughout the Nordic region. Novia works to strengthen Finland’s ties to the Nordic cultural community and to promote cooperation with business and industry as well as other sectors of working life.
