Happy Ship

Happy Ship is a Groningen-based creative studio specializing in 3D animation, immersive storytelling, VR, AR and interactive experiences. For more than a decade, technology has been at the heart of our artistic practice, enabling us to create new ways for audiences to engage with culture, education and the performing arts.

We combine artistic direction with technologies such as game engines (Unity and Unreal), motion capture, real-time rendering, projection mapping, sensor-based interaction and spatial audio to develop experiences that blend digital and physical performance. Rather than using technology as an end in itself, we see it as a creative tool that enhances storytelling, emotional engagement and accessibility.

Our portfolio includes collaborations with orchestras, musicians, theatres, festivals and educational institutions. We have created interactive installations, VR productions and augmented reality experiences that invite audiences to become active participants instead of passive spectators. Notable collaborations include projects with the Noord Nederlands Orkest, Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest, Arling & Cameron, Robin Coops, libraries across the Netherlands and ESA's SpaceBuzz educational programme.
