About

Our Human-Computer Interaction research group provides advanced XR capabilities for Horizon Europe consortia, specializing in human-centered interaction for Mixed Reality. We apply rigorous participatory and user-centered design methodologies to develop, prototype, and validate complex immersive technologies.

Core Contributions & Technologies:

  • Mixed Reality & Affective Computing: Utilization of wearable biofeedback and emotion detection to design bioresponsive and highly adaptive XR experiences.

  • Multimodal Interaction & Natural Interaction: Advanced integration of gestures, haptics, and tangible interaction, combined with spatial computing and object detection for seamless Mixed Reality.

  • Personalized & GenAI-Enhanced Environments: Leveraging Generative AI to create, adapt, and customize virtual spaces and objects on-the-fly, to adapt the immersive content to individual needs.

  • Human-Robot Interaction & Industry 4.0: Immersive MR interfaces for secure remote assistance and mobile robot teleoperation, integrated with low-latency networks.

  • Serious Games & Collaborative Environments: Transforming therapeutic and training processes into motivating, multiuser collaborative environments.

Pilot Validation:

We facilitate access to Spanish end-users and pilot providers from the wellbeing and industry sectors, ensuring robust, real-world validation of XR solutions.

Relevant Projects in Virtual Worlds:

  • IRIS-XR (Immersive realism through integrated sensing and optics for XR): Advancing XR technologies via ultra-fast eye/gesture tracking and AI-driven multimodal interaction to create highly immersive, adaptive virtual experiences for healthcare, aviation, and automotive sectors.

  • CORE-MHC (CORTEX2): We developed and evaluated a remote Mixed-Reality platform democratizing mental healthcare through gamified, multiuser occupational therapy. It integrates real-time physiological data and was co-designed directly with therapists to improve treatment adherence.

  • MANTRA (SPIRIT): Our HCI & developed an immersive Mixed-Reality interface for teleoperated mobile robotics in demanding factory environments, featuring robust multimodal feedback and agnostic wireless communication.
